Whether it is for commemoration or celebration, we would be happy to assist you in selecting Temple Sholom as a setting for your event.
Our facilities are able to accommodate groups that range in size from large to the most intimate. With a fully equipped kitchen and the flexibility to use a variety of spaces, we are the perfect venue for occasions where family and friends gather together to rejoice or remember.
Sponsoring an Oneg Shabbat or Kiddush Lunch
Shabbat is a special time to reflect and acknowledge the important occasions in your life.
Sponsoring a kiddush is a meaningful way to celebrate a life cycle milestone–birth, baby naming, birthday, anniversary, graduation, a loved one’s yahrzeit and more–and nurture connection in our community. At Temple Sholom, sharing food and drink together is a special way in which we foster community.
TIMING AND COST
Friday Evening – Oneg Shabbat
There is typically an 8:00 PM service on Friday nights followed by an Oneg Shabbat (dessert reception) open to the whole congregation. You may sponsor an Oneg for a suggested donation of $180, payable to the synagogue’s Meal Sponsorship*. The synagogue will provide a variety of desserts, fruit, coffee, tea and juice. If you are bringing in any outside baked goods please make sure they are nut-free or clearly labeled if they include nuts.
Saturday morning – Kiddush Lunch
Saturday morning services take place at 10:00 AM, followed by a Kiddush lunch at approximately 12:00 PM. You may sponsor a Kiddush lunch open to the whole congregation for a suggested donation of $540, payable to the synagogue’s Meal Sponsorship*.
For non-B’nei Mitzvah Saturdays, Robin Pawer is usually our in-house caterer and she prepares the weekly menus. Please be in touch with the Events Manager with an estimated guest count no less than two weeks before your simcha date to ensure Robin can prepare enough food for everyone. If you are anticipating more than 25 guests, please be in touch with the Events Manager to discuss options.
For simchas that fall on a B’nei Mitzvah Saturday, it may be possible to co-sponsor the Kiddush Lunch with the B’nei Mitzvah family and you’ll need to be in touch with the Events Manager ahead of time for optimal coordination.
KASHRUT (JEWISH DIETARY) POLICY
In our kitchen and for any events in the Temple Sholom building, vegetarian and dairy foods are permitted without a hekhsher (kosher certification symbol). Only Kosher-certified meats with a hekhsher (kosher certification symbol), such as chicken and beef, are permitted, but not when they are mixed with dairy items. No pork, no shellfish (e.g. shrimp, lobster). Tuna and salmon are fine. Please ask a staff member if you are unsure.
* All contributions will receive a tax receipt.
For more information please see our Planning a Function Booklet.
To inquire about the use of our facility or make a reservation, please contact Marielle Solan at 604.266.7190.

Men's Club - Bitcoin: Politics in the World of Finance
With Mark N. Wexler
Dr. Mark N. Wexler is a Professor Emeritus of Business Ethics and Management at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, where he taught ethics and organizational strategy in the Executive MBA Program. Mark's academic work appears in over 125 refereed journals and ten books.
At its core, Bitcoin proposed a radical reimagining of how societies might organize their financial systems—one that bypassed traditional intermediaries like banks and government-run central authorities entirely. The talk explores Bitcoin's relationship to the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. The talk examines arguments for and against its adoption, and analyzes how this digital currency intersects with fundamental questions about who regulates the social, financial, economic, and political systems.
