Senior Rabbi:
Rabbi Philip L. Bregman

Rabbi Philip Bregman joined the congregation in the summer of 1980 as the spiritual leader of Temple Sholom. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto, as well as a Masters of Hebrew Letters, Rabbinic Ordination and a Doctor of Divinity from Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion.

Rabbi Bregman conducts worship services, presides over all life cycle events, takes an active role in our Religious School and supervises all synagogue programming. His personal touch is felt in all aspects of synagogue life. His wisdom, sensitivity, warmth and humor enable him to make a deep connection with people of all ages.

Rabbi Bregman's commitment to community building is evident in his founding of RAV (the Rabbinical Association of Vancouver), his role as a teacher at Talmud Torah and TAG (the supplementary Jewish high school) and his work with interfaith groups. Within the congregation, he has trained lay leaders, empowering members to conduct Torah study, minyans and shivas. As an unwavering supporter of Israel, he has strengthened the synagogue's connections to our homeland by leading tours and developing strong ties to many Israel-based organizations.

With passion, energy and eloquence, Rabbi Bregman has been instrumental in increasing the membership of Temple Sholom from 70 families to over 700 member families. In addition, he has inspired six children of the congregation to become Rabbis.

Rabbi Bregman is married to Cathy Netter Bregman and has three children, Shai, Jordana and Shira. Rabbi Bregman can be reached at rabbi@templesholom.ca
