Group picture at the Agahoza-Shalom Youth Village in Rwanda. This village was created and by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the State of Israel to deal with orphans from the 1994 Rwandan Genocide in which 1,000,000 people who slaughtered (mostly by machetes) in 100 days.

We’ll kick-off our TSU season with Jordana Shani, Hillel BC Managing Director and Rabbi Philip Bregman, Hillel BC Executive Director, who will be talking about the recent  HILLEL BC “PROJECT TIKKUN” PROGRAM.
Project Tikkun was a year-long program for university students, of active learning that culminated in a hands-on service trip to Rwanda and Israel. This ground-breaking, multi-disciplinary and extra curricular initiative crossed cultural, religious and racial boundaries, and seriously challenged participants to understand the essence of hate by breaking down stereotypical thinking.  There were 15 participants, 5 Jewish students and 10 non-Jewish students.
