BIO: Dr. Fred Mikelberg served two terms as Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of British Columbia from January 1, 2002 to June 30 2012. He has served as Director of Undergraduate Education, Residency Program Director and Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship Training Program.

His clinical practice is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with glaucoma and his research examines the assessment of the optic disc in glaucoma and more recently the use of large administrative databases in disease and therapy. Dr. Mikelberg is a member of the Glaucoma Research Society and a Past President of the Canadian Glaucoma Society. He is a founding member of the Journal of Glaucoma and serves on its editorial board. He is a former President of the Association of Canadian University Professors of Ophthalmology and former Vice Dean for Academic Affairs in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. He is the current Chair of the Specialty Committee for Ophthalmology of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
