About Us
BBYO is the leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences. For more than 90 years, BBYO‘s leadership programs the Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA, high school fraternity) and the B’nai B’rith Girls (BBG, high school sorority) have been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences, shaping the confidence and character of more than 400,000 alumni who are among the most prominent figures in business, politics, academia, the arts and Jewish communal life.
Now, BBYO’s network of Jewish teens, alumni, parents, volunteers and philanthropists serves as the Jewish community’s most valuable platform for delivering to the post Bar/Bat Mitzvah audience fun, meaningful and affordable experiences. With year-round activities in hundreds of local communities and inspiring world-wide travel experiences, BBYO’s broad program menu enables teens to explore areas of leadership, service, civic engagement, Israel education and Jewish values.

Vancouver teens joined thousands of peers, educators, business leaders and philanthropists from around the world at BBYO’s International Convention (IC) 2025 in Denver, Colo., Feb. 12-17. Levi Moskovitz, a student at King David High School, was elected as BBYO’s international teen treasurer (grand aleph gizbor) for the 2025-26 term. He is the only Canadian on the BBYO international board, which represents 70,000 teens from 64 different countries.

Jacob's Ladder of Hope
For his Mitzvah Project, Jacob Coblin is working with a local artist, Miran Elbakyan, to create a sculpture for Temple Sholom using hostage bracelets that will be softened, reshaped and incorporated into a metal treeconnected to Jacob’s Ladder. The ladder has broken rungs at the bottom representing the loss andtragedy; at the top they are sturdy, representing healing and hope. The tree symbolizes survivorsand our community emerging from the tragedy and growing stronger together.
Help Raise $5,000 for the sculpture and its installation at Temple Sholom. Any excess funds raised will be donated to help rebuild Kibbutz Nahal Oz, which was hard hit on October 7.

Join Temple Sholom members Maggie and Noah Reitman along with their colleagues from the Vancouver Symphony for this year's Shabbat Shira concert!
This concert will feature our own Cantor Shani Cohen performing songs by Gustav Mahler, and Chamber works by George Gershwin, Ernst Bloch, Edwin Schulhoff, and more.

Bios:
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Noah Reitman is the Assistant Principal Bass of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Noah has performed with the symphonies of Pittsburgh, Detroit, Atlanta, and Nashville, and spent several summers playing at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and the Mainly Mozart Festival in California. Noah composes music for the soundtrack Craft in America on PBS in the US and is co-founder of Purple Mollusk Music, a production company. He was president of the local Vancouver musician’s union for four years and helped establish a relationship between the VSO and VIFF, the Vancouver International Film Festival, to perform live movie soundtracks and educate/empower young film composers through VIFF AMP.
Maggie Reitman is a bassist, vocalist and composer based in Vancouver, BC. She is principal bass of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and plays as an extra musician with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland several times for their summer music programs (the Lucerne Festival Academy, the Composers Seminar Chamber Group, Styx Tours (a collaborative theatrical music production for Lucerne Contemporary Orchestra) and the Lucerne Forward Festival in autumn. As a composer, she writes and records film music for PBS show Craft in America and releases original music, animations and stop-action films through her co-created label Purple Mollusk Music.

Dr. Mark N. Wexler is a Professor Emeritus of Business Ethics and Management at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, where he taught ethics and organizational strategy in the Executive MBA Program. Mark's academic work appears in over 125 refereed journals and ten books.
At its core, Bitcoin proposed a radical reimagining of how societies might organize their financial systems—one that bypassed traditional intermediaries like banks and government-run central authorities entirely. The talk explores Bitcoin's relationship to the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. The talk examines arguments for and against its adoption, and analyzes how this digital currency intersects with fundamental questions about who regulates the social, financial, economic, and political systems.

We will be making a vegetarian soup which will be frozen in containers at Temple and be available for delivery to those congregants who need some tender loving care.
Come and help chop, cook and stir the ingredients as well as package and store in freezer! You can expect to be there for up to three hours.
